State of Colorado - Governor's Office of Information Technology
The State of Colorado is reimagining the way residents interact with state government. myColorado is a critical component of the effort to digitally transform the public services that Coloradans use on a daily basis. The myColorado app allows any resident of the State of Colorado to access a digital copy of their driver license or ID. The digital ID can be used to verify their identity with merchants, law enforcement, and local/state government offices. As the sole UX Designer on the project, I was tasked with designing the user interface for the myColorado merchant portal.
Process
Phase 1: Discovery
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Understand business goals and user needs and develop thoughtful personas to inform the overall design of the user interface.
METHODS
Resources were limited on this project but taking the time to develop a clear problem statement was critical. We explored the various user groups that would use this application and identified their needs and goals. The output of this work was two personas that were used to validate our ideas in the next phase of the project.
Phase 2: Ideation
METHODS
Using pen and paper, low-fidelity wireframes were created to study user flow and information architecture. After brainstorming several ideas, Balsamiq was used to create high-fidelity wireframes. Project stakeholders, including developers, provided valuable feedback during this phase.
Phase 3: Visual/UI Design
DESIGN SYSTEM
For this project we wanted leverage the US Web Design System to improve our design to development workflow and deliver an overall better user experience for the people of Colorado.
PROOF OF CONCEPT
To show a deeper level of detail and to continue to test our ideas from the previous phase, Adobe XD was used as a tool to create a high fidelity mockup of the user interface.
